What is an FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation/Strip) hair transplant?
How does FUT work?
How long does an FUT procedure take?
Depending on the number of grafts, on average it takes anywhere between 4 – 6 hours.
How long does recovery from FUT take?
The scar heals within 7 – 10 days. There may be some residual numbness which settles over a period of a few weeks, leaving a very fine scar hardly noticeable with a hair style of a number 3 shaver attachment onwards.
The sutures are usually absorbable and will fall off in the weeks to come, or if you prefer non-absorbable sutures they will need to be removed between 7-12 days following surgery.
How long do the results of FUT last?
Once you have undergone FUT, the results are permanent. While the initial transplanted hair will shed a few weeks after treatment, it will grow back strong and healthy.
Why should you get an FUT procedure?
The primary benefit of FUT is that each strip of hair contains many grafts ready to be harvested in a small amount of time, allowing the process to be completed quickly. The large number of available grafts and the small size of each unit also allow hair to be distributed more evenly, resulting in a hair pattern that appears natural. Our surgeons also almost always achieve a very thin if not entirely undetectable scar.
FUT is an incredibly effective procedure which is suitable for a wide range of patients
FUT is particularly popular with woman and with patients with extreme baldness and a good donor area, who are prepared to leave the hair a little bit longer at the back (Norwood Grade 6-7). However, it's actually suitable for the vast majority of patients, including those with a Norwood Grade 1!
We offer sound, ethical advice on the amount of grafts available to you
Are you wondering if FUT is suitable for you?
Women are often offered FUT as opposed to FUE hair transplants as they usually have the advantage of having a longer hairstyle that will cover the fine linear scarring.
For those patients who need a very large number of grafts (over 3000), we occasionally recommend combining both FUE and FUT procedures. In extreme baldness, and in the hope of avoiding a second procedure, we may also add further grafts from your beard area if the donor hairs in this region are good.

Consultations are NOT from salespeople, rather it’s from Doctors who advise on what is right, give you facts and look for the best interest of the client. My only regret I didn’t visit them any earlier. Highly recommend anyone looking for real, professional advice by REAL DOCTORS and not sales consultants.
