PRP Treatment

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) stimulates hair growth and encourages healing after having a hair transplant procedure

PRP was originally used in sports medicine to treat injuries and persistent problems like tennis elbow, and in recent times skin clinics use PRP to rejuvenate skin. The hair loss industry has also recognised the qualities of PRP and now use the treatment to combat hair loss and aid post-operative healing.

PRP Hair Restoration is suitable for both men and women. It is a state of the art, non surgical, totally natural, alternative medical procedure used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning.

PRP can do a number of things for your scalp and hair as platelets within blood plasma contain a large number ‘growth factors’. These growth factors when injected into the scalp will stimulate stem cells, promoting the formation of new blood vessels, thus increasing irrigation and allowing nutrients to reach the hair follicles.

At our clinic, the injections are not done under local anaesthetic but some freezing of the area might be used. The actual injections into the scalp take just a few minutes. The entire process from taking the blood, separating the plasma and finally administering the injections takes around 30 minutes to complete.

The key benefits of PRP treatment...

- Enrich hair follicles, and help to revitalise dormant hair follicles, stimulating new hair growth.

- Assist partially transected follicles in the donor area at the sides and back of the head as well as reviving hairs.

- Aid healing in the recipient area in the growth of the newly implanted hairs.

- Reduce trauma, inflammation, erythema (redness); and the formation of scabs and helps the donor areas dermis and epidermis heal faster.

How we use PRP with our patients...

We start by taking a small amount blood from the patient (20ml approx) The blood is then spun in a centrifuge and after a short time, the plasma and red blood cells are separated. From the blood taken around 5mls of plasma is collected. A trained medical professional then administers the plasma into the scalp with a series of sub-cutaneous injections.

The injections are not done under local anaesthetic but some freezing of the area might be used. The actual injections into the scalp take just a few minutes and then you are free to leave. The entire process from taking the blood, separating the plasma and finally administering the injections takes around 30 minutes to complete. PRP is the perfect complement to a hair transplant as it can encourage the newly implanted grafts to grow. It can increase the density and quality of thinning hair, helping in some cases to stabilise the hair loss. There is a marked improvement in the texture and health of the hair shafts and cleanliness of the scalp. This reduces irritation, dandruff and other conditions.

How much PRP treatment will you need?

The treatment plan varies from patient to patient. For example, patients with thinning hair would ideally have three sessions over consecutive months. Depending on each individual's specific needs, follow up treatment is given 6 months to 1 year after the first three treatments Get in touch with us to find out more.
